The Tour of the Seven Churches is a popular saying meaning 'wandering aimlessly', derived from a religious tradition dating back to the Middle Ages, which consisted in a procession through the seven main churches of Rome. The itinerary is here proposed in the form of an accompanied bike tour, for a total distance of 27 kilometres, starting and finishing near the Colosseum.
The route passes by Rome's four major basilicas - St Peter's, Santa Maria Maggiore, San Giovanni Lateran and San Paolo fuori le mura (St. Paul outside the walls) - rich in history and works of art, but also reaches San Sebastiano, surrounded by the greenery of the Appia Antica, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme with its vegetable garden and San Lorenzo fuori le mura (St. Lawrence outside the walls), in the heart of the historic working-class quarter.
