An itinerary just outside the walls, in an area that has gradually become of mixed vocation: residential, sporting, military, industrial and finally cultural. The Flaminio today is a strategic junction of urban reconnection between the north and south of the city of Rome and a world-class cultural centre.
Moving between architecture and the area itself, visitors are able to admire from the outside three great expressions of modern and contemporary architecture: the Olympic Village, designed by the great masters of the 20th century, the Parco della Musica Auditorium, a splendid work by Renzo Piano, and the MAXXI National Museum of 21st-Century Arts, designed by Zaha Hadid. Crossing the river, on the right bank stretches the Foro Italico in its different sections and architectures, from the Piazza dell'Obelisco to the Viale dei Mosaici, to the incredible Casa della Scherma; we will shed light on the architectural, landscape and cultural aspects of this grandiose project in order to fully understand its genesis, development and perspectives in the contemporary world. Particularly interesting are two of the bridges that help form this itinerary: the historic Milvian Bridge, witness to the battle that saw the armies of Constantine and Maxentius face each other in 312 A.D., and the new Bridge of Music, the last bridge built in Rome, an example of how contemporary architecture in the capital fits perfectly into the pre-existing urban fabric.
The visit is organised by AGTAR-Associazione Guide Turistiche Abilitate Roma (Association of Qualified Tourist Guides Rome), the largest association of guides in Lazio, which proposes a number of specific itineraries for those who want to admire Rome and its surroundings while walking in the open air and at the same time increase their knowledge of the river.
The visits respect the philosophy of the Tiberland DMO: to make known sites of exceptional interest but different from those crowded by mass tourism; to promote open-air itineraries and interaction with the city and the population; to promote responsible and quality tourism, respecting the land and the local economy.
All of this is carried out to the highest quality standards: visits are conducted only by licensed tourist guides, professionals certified by the professional association AGTAR.
The guide adapts explanations and timing to the visitors, to offer an optimal experience, which varies according to age and needs.
