A special opening day to discover the Catacombs of Lazio and Italy. Underground places full of history and emotions, exceptionally open with a rich programme of guided tours, workshops and conferences.
Promoted by the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology at national level, on this special day, the Catacombs of Santa Teodora in Rignano Flaminio are also open to the public. Located along the Via Flaminia, near the Cathedral, they extend in an intricate network of tunnels dug into the rock. They were built between the 4th and 5th centuries and contain more than 900 tombs. Visits, with compulsory booking, are conducted by volunteers of the Pro Loco and in the afternoon, at 5.30 p.m., in the Council Chamber of the Municipal Palace, a conference is staged on the theme of the Catacombs, with the participation of distinguished guests and speakers.
