In the lively Flaminio quarter, the MAXXI is not just a museum but a place to be enjoyed all year round with exhibitions, meetings and events. In the museum square, locals and visitors can discover ever-new works to be admired.
Facing Via Guido Reni, the sinuous MAXXI building was designed by the Anglo-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid and features a series of curved surfaces, obtained with a special concrete mix. The first national museum entirely dedicated to contemporary visual culture and covering an area of 30,000 square metres, it is a fluid space, adaptable to different exhibition requirements and in continuous evolution. The large hall leads to the upper galleries split into two main sections, MAXXI Arte and MAXXI Architettura, which, in rotation, host temporary exhibitions. Other attractions include the bookbar, the auditorium and the outdoor space that represents a real square, animated by site-specific installations, works and events.
