An ancient sanctuary and a small museum recount the history of the area with a new multimedia display.
One of the most important centres of worship in antiquity, at the foot of Mount Soratte and in the centre of the furrowed Tiber plain, it was a point of convergence and a trading hub for pre-Roman populations. The goddess Feronia was the protector of female slaves and her sanctuary remained a place of strategic importance even during the centuries of Roman rule. Excavations have brought to light several areas of the ancient site including the large central square, Forum, several temples and an amphitheatre, as well as thermal baths and workshops. Nearby is also the Villa dei Volusii, an important example of a Roman agricultural villa with cistern, and the Antiquarium Museum, which displays the artefacts found in the area and has recently been endowed with multimedia tools that enhance the visitor’s experience.
