A small museum in which to discover the fascinating history of ancient Veio and the surrounding district. From the great Etruscan civilisation to the Middle Ages and up to the present day, along a path which rises up to the top of the Civic Tower.
Inside Formello's most important aristocratic building, Palazzo Chigi, is the permanent home of the rich collection of the Agro Veientano Museum. The exhibition narrates the history and transformations of the area from prehistoric to modern times, through an exceptional selection of works, including, in particular, the precious grave goods found in the Etruscan tombs (tumuli) in the area. A documentary and a multimedia model also allow visitors to dive into the past thanks to accurate reconstructions. Not to be missed is the ascent to the New Civic Tower, the result of a contemporary architectural project, which allows visitors to reach the top of the Building via an “emotional staircase” from which to enjoy a wide-angle panoramic view. Each step of the staircase bears the name of a stage of the Via Francigena.
